Future Stars Soccer Academy Formed, Bringing Extraordinary Overnight & Day Camps

Oglethorpe University Hosts Exceptional Soccer Academy On Lovely Campus
ATLANTA--April 23, 2003--Future Stars Soccer Academy, an extraordinary soccer camp in Atlanta with superb, professional players as coaches, announces the formation of the academy and a first camp season promising a combination of fun and great coaching for boys and girls, aged under six to 18. "Where the professionals of today train the stars of tomorrow," embodies the opportunity for youth athletes to learn from men and women that played professionally and for national teams, worldwide. Jon Akin and Gilbert Jean-Baptiste, who both have exceptional credentials as players and coaches, co-founded the academy. "As his former coach, I know Gilbert Jean-Baptiste as a leader, who rose to captain his team, and a player, who understands both individual commitment and teamwork," comments Ray Reid, University of Connecticut head soccer coach, director of Ray Reid Soccer School (http://www.RayReid.com), coach of four NCAA National Champion teams, and four-time NSCAA coach of the year. "Gilbert has soccer smarts that distinguish exceptional soccer players and I believe this unique camp can provide a great experience for players in the Southeast." "Future Stars Soccer Academy is a summer soccer camp program on our beautiful campus in the heart of metropolitan Atlanta,"comments Bob Unger, director of athletics at Oglethorpe University. "Jon Akin initiated Oglethorpe soccer program improvements with enthusiasm, underscoring a dedication that will benefit soccer campers and their parents." Soccer day camp programs run each week, beginning June 23 through July 18. During the week of June 23, "mini-me" camp entertains and encourages young players, up to age 6. Overnight camp is available this year for two, one-week periods beginning July 7 and July 14. Oglethorpe University is the location for soccer camp, providing a beautiful setting and first-rate facilities. "Of all camps researched, Future Stars Soccer Academy offers the only camp exclusively utilizing coaches that have professional playing experience and who coach all campers," says co-founder and coaching director, Jon Akin. The other co-founder, the academy's technical director, Gilbert Jean-Baptiste adds, "Our coaches have the skill and tactical knowledge that distinguished them on professional teams and national teams. Many earned scholarships to play at the college level before pro careers." Jon Akin, coaching director, is also head soccer coach for both the men's and women's teams at Oglethorpe University; a youth coach for boys Under-13 (U13) and U14 teams; and played professionally for the Atlanta Silverbacks, Charleston Battery, and Kilkinney City of The Irish Premier League. Jon attended Florida's Saint Leo University and was First-Team All-American, All-South, All-Conference, All-Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, twice named Saint Leo male Scholar Athlete of the Year. In 1996, he scored 28 goals and had 16 assists to lead the nation in scoring. His outstanding college record shows he is second all-time in career goals with 61 and first in assists with 45. In 1998, Jon played at Independiente of the first division in Argentina, along with Diego Forlan who now plays for Manchester United in the English Premier League. Gilbert Jean-Baptiste is captain of the Haitian national soccer team, assistant coach for the men's and women's teams at Oglethorpe University, and youth coach for girls U13 and boys U11 teams. He played with the Charleston Battery, was one of three contenders for the A-League Defender of the Year in 2000, Battery Rookie of the Year in 1999, All-Star Team for three consecutive years, and led his team in minutes played. Gilbert graduated from Southern Connecticut State University, where he was Co-Captain,All-Conference, Defender of the Year, Final Four All-Tournament, First Team All-American, named 1998 Men's Division II Player of the Year, and won National Championships in 1995 and 1998. He recently played for the Atlanta Silverbacks. In national team play, he played two World Cup Qualification campaigns, represented his country in two Gold Cups, and amassed 11 caps with still more to come. He is presently the Haitian National Team's Captain and plans to appear in this year's Gold Cup. About Future Stars Soccer Academy
