ATLANTA, GA – July 12, 2005 –
Ingenious Med, leaders in software for improving inpatient care quality and hospitalist charge capture collection, announces that George Karahalis, Director, Training Staff, Survey and Certification Group, at the Center for Medicaid & Medicaid Services (CMS) of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), joins the company’s Advisory Board.
At CMS, George is the national Director for instructors that provide training to State and Federal agencies, who survey or inspect institutional providers of all types. Mr. Karahalis has more than 35 years of senior management experience in the managed care, physician practice, hospital and consulting sectors of the health industry. George continues to teach in the Masters of Public Health (MPH) program at the Emory/Rollins School of Public Health of Emory University, including “Strategic Management,” the capstone course.
“We are pleased to attract respected strategists, such as George Karahalis, to our Advisory Board,” said Steven T. Liu, MD, founder and CEO of Ingenious Med. “These leaders guide Ingenious Med to the most insightful, functional, and valuable technology for hospitalist physicians.”
“Improving business performance is a critical component of better healthcare,” according to George Karahalis. He adds, “I am pleased to offer Ingenious Med my assistance with strategy insight, organizational development and coaching, as a part of their effort to streamline reporting and data capture for hospitalist practice management.”
Prior to CMS, Mr. Karahalis consulted for physician organizations of all types, hospitals, hospital alliances, state governments and employers. He developed market strategy, negotiated managed care contracts for physicians and hospitals, and consulted to improve business performance and increase patient satisfaction.
Previously with Towers Perrin/Integrated Healthsystems Consulting, he evaluated risk bearing and non-risk bearing contracts and network relationships for healthcare providers. He developed the organizational structure and implementation strategy for the governance of healthcare networks and alliances. In 2003, he developed a statewide strategy for injury prevention in the State of Georgia, assisting physicians and ancillary providers with contract negotiations.
Earlier in his career, he ran hospitals for the Air Force and later for Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), where he set up a provider-sponsored HMO.
George earned a master’s degree in hospital and health administration from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel in Charleston, SC. He is a recertified Fellow in American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE).
He is requested as a speaker on Federal and regulatory matters, managed care, strategy, alliance formation, organizational communications, performance problem analyses, etc.
